Strategy: Develop Tools and Deepen Relationships with College Teams and College Administrators in order to Build the Ultimate Program at Each School
The UPA can help college Ultimate make huge strides by intervening in three areas. First, by deepening its relationships with college team leaders, the UPA can become more proactive in figuring out what college teams need to build successful, sustainable programs. Second, by opening lines of communication with club sports administrators and faculty sponsors at colleges and universities, the UPA can help determine how college teams can strengthen their relationships with their schools. Third, by developing and promoting targeted tools to help teams and officials fill existing gaps, the UPA can enable college teams and administrators to build the best possible Ultimate programs at their schools.
Tactic: Strengthen and expand relationships between UPA and college team captains and organizational leaders. The UPA will develop an organized, ongoing infrastructure in order to increase communication between UPA and college team leaders.
Tactic: Develop relationships with club sports administrators (CSAs). A substantial information gap exists between the UPA and college club sports decision makers. The UPA will connect with the national advocacy group for CSAs in order to create an ongoing dialogue in support of college Ultimate teams. An advisory panel of Club Sports administrators will be formed.
Tactic: Cultivate 'institutional advocates" for college Ultimate teams. In many cases clubs and activities offered at institutions of hiring learning require a faculty advisor. The UPA will assess the prevalence of this structure among college Ultimate teams as well as the knowledge level of such advisors of the sport. Based on data gathered, the UPA will create a database of advisors and a communications plan in order to enhance the role of faculty advisors as advocates for teams at their respective schools.
Tactic: Become the hub for tools and information on all college Ultimate issues, for college teams, club sports administrators, and team advisors. College players comprise half of the UPA membership. In many cases they are taking leadership roles for the first time. The UPA will develop online tools and/or print materials to aid them in building and managing their team as well as how to work effectively with campus administration.
