Tactic: Offer regional workshops to train female Ultimate leaders
The goal of this tactic is to develop female Ultimate leaders through an onsite, hands-on workshop. This workshop will equip women with the practical skills to teach and lead Ultimate in their communities. These workshops are not meant to be conferences; they are interactive, practical training programs.
Here is the outline for the plan:
Develop leadership training program for women leaders and create system to assess impact/success. Recruit trainers.
Develop curriculum to train trainers for the leadership program and train trainers.
Pilot one regional workshop to train trainers. Make adjustments to program as necessary based on this pilot. (Goal of training 6 people).
Expand workshops to all regions; number of workshops per year should ramp up as demand increases
The Women's Task Force identified their overall strategy which was to: Increase the number of women playing Ultimate in all levels of the game through the expansion of opportunities for women to play and also by retaining the women who are already playing. This will increase the capacity of Ultimate to support more players of both genders and to create a level playing field for women in Ultimate.
Leadership Program Committee The UPA will be forming a committee in 2009 to tackle the tactic as described above. We are looking for women who have experience leading women's Ultimate programs or who have helped to develop previous leadership programs. The committee will begin working on the development of this program in 2010.
If you have experience that could benefit the development of this program and you would like to contribute on the committee, please contact Melanie@hq.upa.org.
