Apply for a UPA Grant
Please review the grant guidelines and tips before submitting your application. Applications that are incomplete, fail to meet the guidelines or are difficult to read or understand may be dismissed.
Guidelines for Applying
- Projects must be recorded and documented so that others can read about how they were accomplished.
- Proposals should support the goals of the UPA Grant Program which are to promote growth in Ultimate and Ultimate Spirit, to create links between the UPA and local organizers, to serve members' needs and to create documentation that will inspire others to further innovation and excellence.
- The grant program does NOT fund tournaments. If you are organizing a tournament, you can find assistance through the event sanctioning program.
- The Grant Program funds projects which are unique, offer innovative ideas for solutions and indicate methods for becoming sustainable.
- UPA Officials (staff and board) are not eligible for grants.
- Applicants may request a grant of up to $1,500 U.S. dollars.
- Applicants requesting funding for a team or league must provide verification that the team/league is a new, start-up program.
- In alignment with our mission statement, the UPA does not fund international projects. Contact WFDF with inquiries regarding international projects.
- Applications are due by midnight PST on the day of the deadline.
- If you are the recipient of a UPA grant, you will:
- write an article about your completed project for possible publication in the UPA magazine,
- complete the Project Report form, and
- send pictures, newspaper articles, programs and other documents for the grants archive.
Funding Guidelines
- Only request funding for components of your project that will occur during the current funding year. Funding will not be considered for parts of your project that occur before the grant is awarded or for parts of the project which will extend beyond the initial year of the project.
- The UPA would rather not fund tangible assets (i.e. computer hardware) that will revert to the private property of the owner after the project is complete. This is especially true, when those assets can be obtained with other funding sources. Instead, the committee favors allocating funds towards administrative costs, logistics, printed materials (advertising, packets), or items that remain with the program.
- Funding should be looked at as an opportunity to build a sustainable program including a plan for raising more money. The UPA prefers to fund initiatives which demonstrate this within their proposal rather than goals which are short-lived (such as paying a fee to participate in a tournament).
Application Tips
- Check your grammar and spelling.
- Answer questions clearly and concisely, but don't sacrifice clarity.
- Sell your project; be enthusiastic and precise.
